Two most common types of termites in our area are Formosan subterranean termites and Eastern subterranean termites.
They are very good at finding ways to enter homes/structures. Once they enter they hide behind sheetrock while eating the wood infrastructure and are often undetected. Many homeowners make the mistake of thinking that if they own a brick home they won’t get termites, but behind the brick is a wood infrastructure, studs, baseboards, cabinets, trusses, etc.
There are 45-50 species of termites in the US but only about 6 that become a problem to homeowners. Termites can be very beneficial until they attack homes/structures; then they become very damaging.
Have a termite professional inspect and access the structure/home to plan the best treatment.
A termite company that treats will offer an annual contract renewal; they will watch over your house/structure and insure that the termites won’t return. Homeowners should make sure that they don’t do anything that would aid in termites reoccurring such as stacking firewood or lumber near the home's foundation. Also they should make sure the rain water doesn’t puddle around the foundation.
